THE CHAMPIONSHIPS HEATS UP
(30.10.2009) The semifinals of sony Ericsson Championships were set up after four days of grueling battle in group action.
The Sony Ericsson Championships, which brought together the top eight players of the seasýn in Doha, Qatar, determined its semifinalists after four days of round robin matches. Serena and Venus Williams of USA, Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark and Jelena Jankovic of Serbia reached the semifinals.

After the withdrawal of world number one Dinara Safina of Russia just before the tournament, her replacement Vera Zvonareva also retired due to an injury, allowing Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland enter the tournament and make some impact.
