DEMENTIEVA UPSET SERENA IN SYDNEY
(15.01.2010) Elena Dementieva upset world number one Serena Williams to defend her title in Sydney.
Defending champion Elena Dementieva of Russia upset world number one Serena Williams of USA 6-3 6-2 in the final of Medibank International in Sydney, Australia.

Dementiva was impressive throughout the tournament, losing a set only once in her second round clash against Daniela Hantuchova. In the quarters and semis, she had straight set wins over Top 10 players Victoria Azarenka and Dinara Safina.

The final win was Dementieva’s 5th in the last eight meetings with the younger Williams sister.
The Russian collected her 15th career singles title.
