THREE TURKS IN AUSTRALIA
(24.01.2010) Turkish players Marsel Ilhan, Ipek Senoglu and Melis Sezer took part in this year’s Australian Open.
Three players represented Turkey at the Australian Open in Melbourne this year. Marsel Ilhan, Ipek Senoglu and Melis Sezer played in the year’s first grand slam.

Ranked 154th in the ATP rankings, Marsel Ilhan equalled his career best Grand slam achievement at last year’s US Open. After losing in the final round of qualifying, he got into the maindraw as alucky loser and defeated former top 10 player Sebastian Grosjean of France 6-4 6-3 7-5 but lost 6-3 6-4 7-5 to 11th seed Fernando Gonzales of Chile.

Ýpek Þenoðlu partnered Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan in the main draw of women’s doubles to lose in the first round 6-0 7-5 against 12th seeds Chia Jung Chuang of Taipei and Kveta Peschke of Czech Republic.

Junior player Melis Sezer lost 7-6(2) 6-2 in the first round of Girl’s singles to 12th seed Jana Cepelova of Slovakia. In doubles, she partnered Cristina Dinu to win a match but fall in the second round.
