PEER IN SEMIFINALS
(18.02.2010) Shahar Peer of Israel takes revenge for last year by upsetting giant names one by one in Dubai.
Shahar Peer of Israel, who was denied a visa to play in Dubai last year due to the political conflict between Israel and Palestine, made an impressive run this year to reach the semifinals.

Peer started the tournament by upsetting in-form 13th seed Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium 3-6 6-2 7-5 and followed up with a 6-2 6-3 second round win over Virginie Razzano of France. Her real impact came when she upset top seed Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark 6-2 7-5 in the third round. Her quarterfinal opponent was 8th seed Na Li of China, who had to retire due to a back injury while trailing 7-5 3-0.

Peer’s opponent will be 3rd seed and defending champion Venus Williams of USA. In the other semifinal Victoria Azarenka of Belarus will meet Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland.
